I recently replaced the battery in my BackUPS LS700. It's about 2 years old and it was beeping constantly. So after replacing the battery, I thought the beeping would stop. It didn't. And since it's connected to a Mac it doesn't have the functionality to silence the beeps. I was told to reset the unit, which I did. That did not stop the beeps. Finally I just disconnected the USB cable. That worked for about a month, but now the little it is beeping again though nothing has changed hardware-wise. Any Mac users out there who have solved the beeping problem permanently?

The beeps occur when flashing the "replace battery" light. It has a new APC battery in it. The reset was given by an APC tech and is copied here:
1. Please unplug all connected devices from the unit including the interface cable if connected.
2. Switch the unit off if it is on
3. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet.
4. Then press the power switch and release it as soon as you hear a second beep.
5. The unit should come up on battery and beep 4 times every 30 seconds
6. Then plug in the UPS to wall outlet, the Green LED will glow.

There are a couple of reasons for a UPS to beep, and each could potentially have an entirely different solution. Different beeping patterns, and LEDs indicators usually indicate the specific problem - or atleast specific enough to recommend a solution. Can you describe your UPS's beeping, and also which LEDs are lit while the UPS is beeping?
Also, You said you were told to reset the UPS. What exactly did you do to reset it?

If you run that test does it work as intended or give a problem still?

For laughs I sent another email to APC's Indian support site. I was told:
"I request you please open the Power chute software if you are using it. In software, select "Monitor". In Monitor, you have "Run Self Test". In Run Self Test, you will see the battery icon. Double Click on the icon. This will resolve your issue."
I guess he didn't notice that my OS is OSX, because there is no "Monitor" on the Mac version of PCPE. This is just so pathetic. Not only is the support bad, but APC doesn't even make an effort to produce a decent version of their software for OS X. It's UNIX, find one or two developers and get it done APC.
And no, reseting it does not fix it.

Since APC doesn't support their Macinosh using customers, I was forced to borrow my father-in-law's crappy Dell laptop and install PChute on it. Thus was I able to silence the hellish beeping.
There is something flaky internally with this unit. It kept giving error messages saying that the battery had "become disconnected" while I had it connected to the Dell; it would also flash the red "replace battery" light during these errors.
I checked the battery connecting wires and they were attached, and it ran on battery power with no problems. Passed a self-test, and is fully charged. Oh well, at least I now know that Winxp is actually good for something besides running botnets.

I have pile of LS 700 that started the beeping game, even when the battery is replaced. Two have now died totally and are totally unresponsive when plugged in to battery and mains (won't even turn on). Would be nice to fix them, if possible (I'm handy with a soldering iron as they are out of warrantee).

unfortunately, i've seen this before on this model. it is purely cosmetic. you can silence the alarm but can't get rid of the flashing LED. whats happening is that there is an issue in the UPS circuitry. it thinks the battery is disconnected (which is why the replace battery light is flashing, rather than solid) so it gives you the battery disconnected message and makes the noise along with the flashing to tell you to check the connections. most likely though, the first time it gave you this message, the battery really did need to be replaced so it wasnt a waste of a battery if you bought one. when the battery voltage is really low, you can also get this flashing indicator because the UPS may not even see the battery there with the extremely low voltage.
anyway, it would be an issue where the UPS would need to be replaced if you cant silence the alarm or stand that the LED is flashing. if you pull the plug from the wall on the UPS though, it should go to battery and support your load, thus you'd know the battery isnt really disconnected. just incase this isnt the issue, you'd want to do a test like this with a non critical load, such as a lamp. then double check the battery connections if it fails.

This random "Battery Disconnect" error seems to be a common problem with these Back-UPS LS700's. I have at least 8 of these units with the same exact problem, the red light comes on, they chirp, and the power management software says that the battery is disconnected. Then it 'reconnects' for a little while, then the same error and beeps again. We are using official APC RBC-17 batteries shipped directly from APC, so the batteries are NOT the problem.
All are Model: BPC700UC
I have been using APC UPS's for many may years and this is the only model that I have encountered that has this issue. APC should recall this model since they ALL seem to have the same problem...
We've already recycled a bunch of them and here are a few of the SN's from the ones that we still have:
3B053939X24704
4B0515P58272
4B0515P58269
NB0204251511
Is it a coincidence that all of these BPC700UC units are failing the same exact way? I think not...
