My premises is protected with solar battery backup. When utility power fails a Generac ATS cuts over to solar batteries after an approximate 0.5 sec delay. During a recent utility power outage the UPS obviously detected the 0.5 sec power drop and switched to internal battery. However, after the 0.5 sec cutover the UPS did not return to line power source and kept running on its internal battery.
I happened on this accidentally when entering my office and heard the UPS beeping, and reporting it was running on battery power. I shutdown all electronics and power cycled the UPS and it came up running on line power (solar battery supplied) just fine.
The utility outage lasted about 5 hours. When utility power was restored, the Generac switched back to utility power, with another approximate 0.5 sec delay. Again, the UPS switched to internal battery and did not return to line power. After power cycling the UPS again it recognized line power and everything was fine.
Firmware version is 969.e2.D. Software version is PowerChute Personal Edition 3.1.0
Thanks.

You didn’t call out how long the unit remained on battery only mode.
I ask because depending upon model & firmware in place the system will wait for a specific period of time before switching back to online mode.
Regardless of the above you may consider adjusting the sensitivity from the default to the other two options as outlined on page 4 and report back the results.

The unit was on internal battery power for over an hour, first when utility power was lost and then when it was restored.
I have the sensitivity set to medium, but I'll reset it to Low. Will have to wait until there is another utility outage. I can't just through the breaker to the circuit because I think the issue arises during the Generac cutover.
The only log files I can find are from the Windows Application Logs. There were 4 events on the 24th (day of the outage). I cant upload the .evtx log file so I'll summarize:
It appears from (1) that the first transfer occurred because of noise during the Generac transfer. (2)occured when I power-cycled the APC. (3) occurred when the utility power came back on and (4)occured 4 seconds later after the Generac transition back to utility power.
I might have been mistaken in my original post about having to power cycle the APC when power was restored. The event log appears to say the transfer happened 4 seconds later. Note that as the result of power cycling the APC in event (2), the APC thought it was on utility power, even though it was really Generac's backup battery power.
Event (3) occurred during the Generac transition from it's battery to utility line power (that's the 0.5 second gap). The APC interpreted that as a "blackout" incident rather than "noise" as in event (1). 4 seconds later in event (4) it went back to utility power.
Like I said, I'll see what happens next outage with the sensitivity set to Low.
