I've read through the posts here and it appears that there is a frequent problem with the circuitry of this product that causes it to go into permanent overload condition.
Any suggestions as to which product to replace it with?
I bought it and put it into immediate use 17 months ago (May 2008). 99% of the time only a cable modem, VoIP router and wireless router run off of it. <1% of the time I will run my LCD monitor and desktop through it. (I use laptops and kitchen computer way more than this one). While away on a business trip it went into Overload condition in the middle of the night. Luckily our teen-aged son woke up when I wife was ready to hit it with a large hammer (not far from the truth). I went through the reset process and it drops into Overload with just a 90W laptop adapter plugged in. Prior to this one, I had a 1200 XS go bad after three years and this one hasn't made it one and a half - neither had heavy loads applied.

We run the XS 900, CS 500, CS 1000, RS 1500 units in our office (over 40 of them) and we have the overload problem frequently. It's a board problem with these particular units. If you need reliable protection of your equipment you need to move up to the Smart UPSmodel. I doubt that you'd ever experience this kind of problem with the Smart UPSs. For some reason, the CS, RS, XS models are plagued with board problems. We have units go into the overload mode and die frequently. The Smart UPSs are much more expensive and they are by far more reliable especially when it comes to data center servers or really important equipment. On a home PC I don't mind having the Back UPS CS's, but definitely not on a workstation at work.

Kevin,
This is an abnormal operation of the UPS. When did you purchase the UPS? If you purchased this product within last three years, then I recommend you to call in the APC Customer Care Center at 1-800-800-4272 or [Live chat|http://www.apc.com/support/chat.cfm] to get the replacement unit under warranty.
