Hey all -- I've had the Back-UPS XS 1500 for a couple years now and it worked great with a homemade PC a friend of mine built for me. I just bought a brand new DELL that is a pretty powerful system, and connected the UPS to it and installed the APC software. The software suggests that the battery can handle the computer, however any self-test crashes the PC and doesn't record the data on the program. I just tried it again and with the battery unplugged, the DELL just makes a whirring sound and flashes frantically as if it's trying to reboot and is immediately terminated so it's constantly flashing in a state of crashing/rebooting/crashing/rebooting really quickly.
So if the battery worked fine with the old computer and doesn't work with this one, does this mean I need a battery backup with more juice? When it's connected to the battery, the battery only reads it as being about 20% loaded up. So I don't see why it's having this issue. Any insights?
Thank you!
-John

I am experiencing the same problem with a Dell XPS 9000 based on the Dell forums It requires a "Pure Sine Wave" with the original Power supply. I am researching a new PSU as it will be less expensive that replacing a 6 month old XS 900.

Hi John,
I would like to know the exact model and serial number of the battery backUPS. Please provide the model of both computer that you have attached to the UPS, as well as the watt/VA drawn by both computers. That should be located on the sticker of the CPU itself.

Sounds like the Dell computer wants a pure sine wave output rather than the Back-UPS model's step-approximated sine wave. Like you said, it's only 20% load so size isn't an issue. What's the model of the computer?
