BACK-UPS ES 500 started beeping non-stop

that we have to unplug it...totally to make it stop.
Annoying...scary as we did not know where it was coming from at first 2 minutes...
Is there any part of it that i should replace? Or should I throw it?
I am currently using a regular extension (6plugs). Please let me know. I am so confused and upset with this.
I am not a computer savy person and this frustrates me even more.

fr0z3nfir3, if you have already replaced the battery and the UPS still shows that sign the unit needs to be replaced.

Hi there..I've got some problem too with my back- UPS ES-500(BE500R-PH) with a serial 5B0849T37476. At first the usual sound is there when you turn it on but the screaming non stop sound will follow afterwards with the led, flashing green, and I could hear some ticking sound too. I don't know what happened and i don't have any idea what to do. Should I replace the whole unit or just the battery alone. I hope I do not  need to buy a new one.

Hi mhalz, did you encounter any power interruption before this happened on your UPS?  Does the tone stop as well as the flashing green LED?  Does it happen as soon as you plug in the UPS or as soon as you turn it on?  How do you manage to stop the tone?

Hi Jon, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it much...

Yes there was some power interruption before that, maybe twice, but then the UPS still works just fine when i had used of it but then when I open it the next day then that's the time it was starting to yell. Yes, It happened as soon as I plug and switch on the unit and it will just stop when I turn the UPS off. The tone is continuous and the green LED is blinking.

Same conditions, its rather annoying as simply turning on the unit, beeping is endless, technical support say to change battery, and we did replace batteries, but still the same. both for es 500 models and rs 1100.

Before this situation happened, we did encounter, sudden power failure, which lasted about 30 seconds in interval, then total power loss, we then shutdown our computers and also the ups.
When the power returned, obviously we open first the ups and there it goes, endless beeping.

Note: the ups is hot on the surface, i felt it before unpluging the unit from mains, after turning it off. I know that during is back up operation, normally it generates heat, but this one is different, because the heat stays on further for about 10 - 15 mins even unpluged, and the room is cool enough at 22C. When you feel the surface, its quite hot.

Hi there, Jon P!

We have a Back-UPS ES 350 ( BE350G  3B0817X53338) and it also was doing the whole constant noise.  It also flashes crazy red and green lights while it's making the high pitched annoying noise.  I proceeded to power down and left it off for about 20 minutes and then turned it back on and it's been fine ever since.  But this has happened before. Could it be the battery?  Or should we just get a new box altogether?

Were you able to recover from the said condition?  From the symptoms that you have told us so far, it does show that the UPS has encountered has reached the low battery state.  If the UPS has been connected for some time now and it still does the same thing I would advise for you to try swapping batteries if buying a new unit is not an option for now.

Good day Angie,

What I can recommend is to check if the other UPSs that you have are of the same model. If they are using the same batteries, you can hot swap the batteries to see if the constant tone would stop. If you are unsure, you can check the model numbers of the UPSs and post it here and I would check if they do have the same kind of batteries.

Also, can you tell us if you could see a red or green LED flashing or solid on the UPS while it is producing that constant tone. Are you still getting power from the outlets?

I apologize for what had happened. Let me do my best to assist you with the problem. Can you provide the exact model and serial number of your UPS? This can be found on a white barcode sticker underneath the unit. In order for us to properly diagnose the problem, can you tell us if the beeping is accompanied by an LED flashing red or green on the UPS? Can you also tell if the load attached to the turned off when it gave that beep.

I am having almost exactly the same problem with my Back-UPS ES 500. However it does not beep. It has one sound that is continuous and won't stop until you shut off the unit. It started doing this 1 month ago. I shut it off, let it sit for a day and then plugged it in again. Yesterday it started screaming non-stop again and my roommates unplugged it again. I have 5 other UPS same model and when the battery was dead. They started beeping non-stop. I replaced the batteries and they are still all working? I have had a previous experience with three other UPSes where I purchased batteries for UPSes. The UPSes did not work when the batteries were replaced and once you buy a batttery, if it is not the battery but the UPS, you cannot return the battery. I still have some small batteries kicking around. Does this UPS need to have the battery replaced or do I have to replace the whole UPS.

Hi There,

The lights were as far as I remember not flashing but solid. Power was still going to the units as the IT guy shut it all down for me and unplugged everything whilst I was not home as they could not stand the noise when they got home from work. But a couple of months ago the computer kept on rebooting itself, which by my research today is an UPS overload symptom. Can't understand though how having only the computer, monitor and speakers plugged in could cause an overload as I unplugged all other items into a power bar plugged into the next outlet. Other units do have the same battery but are located in a different building so can not hot swap. IT guy thinks the unit is toast and I purchased a 750 model today.

Since you have mentioned that the unit emits a constant tone and we aren't sure if the LED was solid Green or Red. For this particular unit, it is either the UPS has detected a bad battery or a disconnected battery. You are correct as well that the unit is already seven (7) years old.

my problem with my UPS ES 500 , i turned it off to make general cleaning when I finished cleaning I'm trying turn it on , no thing happened , i opened it disconnect and test battery charged , i reconnect battery it makes a bip and i close the unit ups and it working good , but after many hours works i turned it off , tomorrow i am coming work plug in the socket and nada no tension not ON , thenI redohandlingopen, disconnect, reconnectandit worksagain , so where is the problem here, excuse mefor my EnglishbutI startedin a foreign language, thank youto answer me .

Hi there.. I have a problem with my APC UPS it's model is BE500R-PH serial 5B0818T29407 at first it will beep non stop and then i shut it off and restart again and it will be okay but today it wont stop making a loud noise beeeeeeeeeeppppp non-stop and it's blinking in green light at the on/off switch and before it starts to beep nonstop I hear a ticking sound or something like that I turned it off and tried again after a hours and it's still the same can you please help me.. what do i need to do I'm not that computer savy do i need to replace the batteries where can I buy a replacement and should I bring the unit with me? Can I replace them myself but it says here do not remove cover and let specialist handle it. I bought it 3 years ago and I think the warranty only last 2 years. Hoping for your reply please help =D

the load was just 2 the lcd monitor and the cpu and the ups is plug in a 6 outlets extension cable that has 4 units plugged in including the ups (the other three was the speaker, modem and telephone. ..

I just replaced the battery in my Back-UPS PRO 500 unit a couple of weeks ago and twice it's gone off while the machine was just sitting idle.

This morning it started a continuous beep and red light was on steady. By the time I was able to get to it to turn it off (less than a minute) the computer had shut down.

It was fine before the new battery. I have no idea how to diagnose this problem.

From sticker on back, model # is BP500UC and serial # is NB0114252204. Any advice would be appreciated.

Adding my 2 cents.   I have a BE 550R.   At my country home the rural power people occasionaly loose their normal substation connection and the system re-routes to a farther away substation.   The change does not show up in voltage but my UPS goes crazy; it switches to battery for 5 seconds then goes back to line and repeats this continuously until the battery runs down or I shut it off.   I believe it is caused by poorly controlled generators supplying power that messes with the frequency.   Only the UPS is fast enough to see it.

After a couple episodes of this my 550R took to continuous beeping.   The error message said battery not connected; replace battery.   I checked the battery to be good.   To fix my problem I connected a lamp to the battery protected socket, turned off the warning beep through the software and then unplugged the UPS.   The lamp continued to burn for probably 20 minutes before the UPS shut down.   I plugged it back in and the unit started charging and the buzzing did not come back.  I think it is fixed.   You might try this before buying a new battery or new UPS as others have suggested.

Sounds like the newer models are less susceptible to line frequency "blips".

Try to do the steps below:

1: Disconnect any attached load.

2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.

3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.

4: Push and hold the ""On"" button on the UPS for 5 seconds

5: Reconnect internal battery.

6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.

7: Turn UPS on.

If all else fails, the UPS needs to be replaced.

Just adding something else for people to try when having the continuous beep issue. It worked for me just now. Not sure how long it will work for.

1. Unplug everything including the unit.

2. remove battery, wait a few minutes

3. attached battery and turn on the unit so it runs on the battery

4. plug back in the unit and it might start working again

I just figured this out! My APC had been broken for over a year until I pulled it out of the closet. I just realized the battery was removable. I took the bat. out to look fo signs of corrosion. Didn't see any so I put it back together plugged it in then powered it on. It sounded a little ruff at first like a old tower PC using dial up. Hit the reset button and is good as new.

That's really surprising! If your battery has been off the charger for a year, I'd expect it to be dead by now. You might try pulling the plug and seeing if the UPS remains on.

Hello - I have an older (probably much older) Be500U  battery is dead - after reading some posts I tested the unit without a battery in it - plugged in.  one side of the unit (outlets on side with the button) functioned, other side did not.   no lights go on except the building wire fault on one outlet in my bathroom!  (gotta check those old GFI's)  anyway before I buy a battery want to know if any other way to test it is functioning correctly.  thanks cary  c
