I have a SCO 5.0.6 server and the powerchute daemon , upsd, will not start. Is there any way to start the daemon and get a log of what is happening. I can't find any messages to point me to why it will not start.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply:
1 - Is the com port configured properly?
As far as I know. This has worked properly but on or about October 30th
it started to core dump. The onsite admin never looked at the system. I
just found out since I was on a project.
2 - Have you uninstalled and reinstalled?
No but that was my next step.
3 - Have you tried to rebuild the com port? If the com port is
corrupted PC+ can crash.
Haven't done that as the com ports get installed during initial
installation.
4 - Have you checked the system log to see if it is recording the
crash?
I did but could not find anything. I am still investigating.
I have 17 of these servers spread out over 5 counties. This one had the
motherboard changed a few years back but it is an INtel board. It most
likely is a corrupt file. The powerchute software starts but the server
daemon is doing the crashing. Also the only way I get it to start (but
it will crash immediately) is to reboot the server. Any attempt after
that does not produce a core dump but the server will not start.
I will do a reinstall and get back to you.

can you verify what version of powerchute this is? is it the older powerchute plus? i ask because i didn't think we supported SCO (unix?) on any of the newer software. just curious so we know what we're working with.

Angela,
Yes this is the older powerchute software and it is the character based
one. I have 22 servers (SCO 5.0.6) and it runs fine on all but this one.
As a matter of facte it stopped working a while ago but I just found out
that it crashes at boot time. I get a core dump when it tries to start
at boot time. If I try to start it after the system is up nothing
happens.

Hmm I don't know much about the older PowerChute Plus on Unix. I only know it pretty well on Windows.
Last time I had a question on this I was lost as not many people do know about PowerChute Plus these days but Bill P. - do you have any ideas or know of anything we could try in order to figure out what's going on here?

Who is this Bill P? Do I contact him? I am wondering if it could be the
motherboard?

John,
It sounds like there is either a conflict with another app that is running or corrupt file/s. A few things you can check are.
1 - Is the com port configured properly?
2 - Have you uninstalled and reinstalled?
3 - Have you tried to rebuild the com port? If the com port is corrupted PC+ can crash.
4 - Have you checked the system log to see if it is recording the crash?
