I have a few AP9631s running Version: v5.0.3 or Version: v5.0.5
What is the recommended upgrade procedure for this?
Do I need to upgrade to an intermediary version or can I go directly to 5.1.6
I have attempted this type of upgrade and it failed, the card became non-responsive. We ultimately ended up swapping it out.
Thoughts?

unfortunately no, unless you have access via IP to the card and can access the command line. to me it seemed like you said the card looked like it was DOA after the upgrade but are the LEDs on it?

for an upgrade to 5.0 to 5.1 would i want to format the NMC prior to attempting the upgrade to prevent this type of failure in the future?

You can upgrade directly from 5.0.x to 5.1.6. Was it unresponsive via the network or locally or both? We would always recommend trying to locally connect to the NMC at that point and see if it responds. If not, we would then want to check the leds on the card, possibly reseat the card or brain dead the UPS and try again. Please let us know if you have any questions are any further info that would help us determine the cause of this issue.

sometimes with a large upgrade, which normally is fine, the file system can become corrupt and cause the card to look like it is unresponsive. there are a few tricks you can do to verify that - such as formatting the NMC (which does indeed wipe the enter card and configuration but not the firmware). sometimes a corrupt file system causes the network LEDs to not illuminate but will allow access via console/network.
if you still have this card i would be glad to assist you further with it.

oh sorry, forgot to type that. if you cannot get into it, you need to hold down the reset button for 20+ seconds. sometimes it can be difficult to find the reset pinhole, which is on the front of the actual card. it may require some patience but try to hold it down for at least 20 seconds and see if anything happens after that.

yeah you could try that..i havent done one in a while so i am not sure if there is a trick but before you do any upgrade, i think the utility automatically backs up your config.ini file with all your configuration but you could back it up manually if you wanted as well then go ahead and upgrade and if there is an issue, try a format. it should be rare hopefully..
the only thing to keep in mind a format wipes the file system completely so you lose any network settings. if you could access the card somehow, you could do a reset to defaults and exclude your TCPIP settings if possible.
