I have 4 sua1500 units and they all work, but one has a problem.
The unit in question work perfectly with Power Chute Business Edition. I have it connected to a PC and the test will work, it will calibrate, and shows 100% battery, and will do a timed shut down when losing power, and come back via the timer setting in Power Chute. The Power On (Test) button works perfectly, but the Power Off button will not shut the unit down when pressed. As the unit works otherwise I don't think this is a showstopper as I rarely have need to manually shut it down.
Any suggestions as to why to Power Off button does not work?
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

I just checked the control board in the front panel of the SUA1500 and it has a dark coating (like solder flux) over the circuit board capacitive switch. Also, the test switch, which works, does not have the coating. Anybody know what I am talking about? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help or insights.

Hi Rich,
Not sure what it could be besides the button no longer making contact or something is damaged, assuming the unit is several years old. There are a few different ways to turn the output of the UPS off thankfully - including via PowerChute (I think), the DB-9 serial port on the back of the UPS (between pins 7 and 9 of the DB9 for 200 ms (60Hz) 240ms (50Hz)), or via another accessory if you happen to add one at a later time (Network Mgmt Card, Dry Contacts Card, etc).
If you ever needed to "braindead" the UPS, which is typically done by holding down the button when AC power is removed, it automatically happens anyway after 8-10 minutes with no AC input power. Sometimes this is required for troubleshooting or resetting communications on any SUA model UPS.

Angela N....
Thanks for your reply. I am a retired engineer and have worked in the computer/electronics field for many years...these UPS are a bit new to me, but I can figure them out. I have the APC serial cable and have access to the sua1500 via. the serial port. I am primarily using PowerChute, which works fine. I also have several AP9606 cards which I may install...so I should be able to control the unit that way.
Per your suggestion, The unit in question is probably 7 years old, don't remember the mfg. date, but works fine other than the power button. I will try troubleshooting the power button and try bridging across switch contacts to see what happens... will let you know what happens.
Peace,
Rich Bendorf
