IT Closet UPS Recommendation - Questions
I need a UPS for an IT closet in a new office in New Zealand. I'm in the US so I am unfamiliar with the standards there.
Normally, in our North American and European offices, we'd get a 3000 kva Smart-UPS for powering a router, switch w/POE, modem, some misc small devices, and sometimes a server and LCD monitor. It would normally connect to a 30A wall outlet. I don't know enough about this to know why we'd go with those specs.
For this new office, there will be 900W of power consumption, and we want a battery runtime of at least 15 minutes. The device also needs to be a 2U rackmount.
APC sales support has recommended the SMX2200RMHV2U. This is a 2000 kva unit that connects to a 15A wall outlet.
My questions are: When would I choose a 3000 kva vs a 2200 kva UPS?
What is the standard wall outlet for a 15A circuit in NZ? It appears to be the AS/NZ 3112, which has a 15A variant. Is that correct? Is there a particular nomenclature for this, or is "AS/NZ 3112 15A" it? I need to know what to tell the electrician.
