I have got an older smartups 2200 running for a couple of servers.
End next week it started to act up.
Battery replacement needed was showing up on the display (also one group of outlets didn't function anymore)
I thought this was to blame because one of the battery that needed replacement, but yesterday to ups started to reboot unexpected.
Could this be because of the battery that have died or is it a sign the ups needs to be replaced ?
Is there a way to diagnose this before replacing the ups ?

The batteries typically last 3-5 years, so it makes perfect sense that they would need to be replaced. All batteries provide power to all outlets and all batteries must be replaced at the same time. If you can provide the exact model and serial number of your unit I can provide some more guidance on the outlet issue.

The fact it's old and a new battery didn't work means it should be replaced.

No, I didn't replace te batteries yet, because to error was just displayed a week ago.
But no it is rebooting, I want to know if this could be because of the batteries.
I want to prevent buying new batteries, if the whole ups needs to be replaced.
Is there a way to figure this out ?

Hi Guy -
In short, yes - a bad battery can result in unexpected reboots. The standard way to troubleshoot the replace battery indicator on a Smart-UPS would be to ensure the UPS is charged to 100%, then re-run a self test with the normal load present. Depending on your model, this could be by pressing and holding the "I/Test" button on the front of the UPS, or by using the LCD display. If the replace battery indicator stays lit after the self test, the battery should be replaced. Depending on the age of your UPS, replacing the battery may or may not be the best way to go. If your unit is more than 10 years old, I would strongly suggest replacing the UPS.

Thank you for the reply, the unit is 5 years.
Could a bad battery also explain the outlet group problem (see first post) ?
I suspect each battery is powering an outlet group, is this correct ?
