smart ups shows load with nothing connected

Hi there,
SUA1500 (2004) always shows a 5.8% load when nothing is connected at all.

I know that the load measurement is more a guesswork with APC units, but this I have never seen before.

I dis-re-connected batteries, mains etc.

There is also a slight buzzing noise, but I know a few other units with the same noise, working fine (normally it's the AC 20uF capacitor).

Is the unit malfunctioning or is it just an internal adjustment which went out of whack?

Thanks!

Hi Powersupply,

Id like to know, when nothing is connected on the unit, are the Load LED lit infront of the unit? What version of the PowerChute software are you using?

no LED's are lit.

Powerchute: don't know. uninstalled it again, was the newest.

But as mentioned, it has nothing to do with the quering software, as it shows it even through Hyperterm.

It is an issue with the unit.

My questions are whether it's a hardware error or just an adjustment gone bad.

And if somebody has ever seen such an anomality.

Are there any other boards where I could ask this question?

And who is Henny?

Hi Powersupply,

From my experience, switching to a newest version of the software solves an issue especially if the hardware (LEDs) reports correctly.

You may try installing the software PowerChute version 9 from the link below and see if that will make a change.

[PCBE version 9|http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm]

To see what version of the software you are using, within the Agent or Console Interface, you may go to Help the about.

Hi powersupply,

Are you seeing the 5.8% from the software of the unit? What LEDs are lit infront of the unit?

You may try to braindead the UPS by unplugging it from the wall, UPS off, press and hold the "O" button. You should hear click then release the button.

We'll try to de-energize the circuitry of the unit and see if it will still give you same issue.

Hi,
the 5.8% are shown in "APC PowerChute Business Edition".
I tried it via hyperterm too, it's there.

Yes, tried that reset too.
Even did a "Reset to factory settings" (z command), which normally clears screwed up units, but nada.

Hooked .up a Wattmeter and it is not there.

So it must be a false reading internally.

Did anybody ever encounter a false "zero" reading like this on any unit?
