greetings,
i'm contemplating buying a used su1400net. there is no battery with it. it won't power up so the seller can't demonstrate that the thing actually works, but he says it does.
i've seen some forum posts that indicate the device will not power up without the battery connected, but i've also seen the user manual that says the battery is hot swappable. those two pieces of information seem to me to conflict and i'm hoping someone can clarify. are both correct? will the device not power up without a battery, but once it's powered up it will stay up while you swap the battery?
thanks!

Without a battery the only check you can make to see if the ups is even partially healthy is to plug it in and with a voltmeter check that there is correct charging voltage at the positive and negative battery terminal wiring/connector ends. For an SU1400 that would be around 27 to 28 volts DC.
The correct battery for this UPS is an RBC7 , pair of 12 volt 17 amphour batteries in series... about $150 new.

Exactly. The internal electronics of these old units run off the battery. There are internal capacitors that keep things running even without a battery, however they do not retain a charge after line power is removed. Newer units (SMT and SMX) are able to run on either battery or line power.

Yes both correct.
if you connect battery and give your UPS input power your ups will working good after that you disconnect battery your ups still working (if ups not working that mean Problem with charger) in this case it is working only regulator and surge without backup time
note: if power fault your ups will switch off and to turn on you have to connect battery and give input power for ups
thanks
