this is my first post here. i'm an apple guy and i'm trying to set things up so that a windows 2003 server goes thru the proper shut down process when the power going into the UPS goes down. I have a Back UPS ES 500.
I'm guessing that this somehow happens via an ethernet cable. someone mentioned a usb port but i'm not seeing it.
And I'm guessing that i might need a firm/software update to make this happen, but the updates section doesn't list the ES 500 in the dropdown menu, so i'm not sure what to do there.
I'm hoping that replies auto send to my email address.

Mark,
My first concern is that you're using an ES500 to power something that is running server 2003. Have you tested without software to make sure, at the least, that when the UPS goes to battery, the step approximated sine wave has no affect on the server?
Secondly, the only software for this application would be PowerChute Personal Edition, as that's the only one compatible with the ES500. If you wanted to run something with more user-configurable options, you would need PowerChute Business Edition, which comes free with a Smart-UPS, which seems to be the ideal UPS for this setup.
