I installed and ran APC Device IP Configuration Wizard v3.0.1 hoping it would detect the unconfigured network management card. I launch the app, click next, and am presented with two radio buttons: one for network configuring over the network and one for network configuring over serial port. Except the first one is greyed out! It will allow the serial port choice, but not the network based choice. Why?

Welcome to the APC Forum Neal.
What kind of APC Networking device are you using in conjunction with the Device IP Wizard? This is the first time that I've heard this kind of issue, we're using the same software and mine shows both option available. If you want to configure the device using a different method you can try this knowledgebase article [How do you make a Network Management Card communicate on a network?|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3061&p_created=1069703361&p...]

I'm actually not sure what kind of device it is. I'm sure I could have someone run to the server room go take a look. But the wizard never gets far enough to even go looking. I could understand if it just plain didn't find anything that needs configured. But I can't even do a network search. The button is greyed out. I am sure the wizard is coded to grey it out under certain conditions. Maybe its because I am running this on Windows 2003 server, and because the nic card on here is all manually configured to a specific address?

hi
just a couple questions from my end
did you download this from the web?
have you tried a different computer to see if it does the same thing?
i tried disabling my network connection to see if that would cause this issue, which i assume you DO have a network connection, but it still gave me the option to do it over the network.
