We are using a APC Smart-UPS XL 3000VA from 2009 July onwards. Upto last week, it worked properly. Now its not working properly. Now we are not getting any backup time. When we charge the ups without connecting any devices for few hours, it shown all the battery charge indicator leds are ON. After that, when we connect the ups to any device or pressing the TEST button, suddenly power is dropping and shows all the battery charge indicator leds are OFF and start charging again. We gave the ups to one of the authorized APC service centre. They told it may be a firmware / chip problem. They told if we will change the battery, we won't get the proper backup time. If it’s a chip problem, what we want to do. Now Powerchute Bussiness edition showing to replace the battery. is it a battery proble?

If you do simulate a blackout by pulling the plug or opening an input breaker do you also get very little or no backup time? If so, it sounds like you may just need a new battery. If its only been in use since July 2009 it should be in warranty.
