Weird charging behavior on new SMT1500C
Hi;
I just got a brand new SMT1500C and it seems to be showing some strange behavior.
I already had an SMT1500 and the charging behavior of the SMT1500C seems very different (and seemingly wrong).
I wanted to know if this is how the SMT1500C's are supposed to behave or if I might have a defective one.
I installed PCBE 10.0.5 on Windows 10. I'm using the USB cable connection to monitor the UPS status.
When I first started up the SMT1500C it reported a charge of about 8x% and voltage of 27.3 V.
After about 70 minutes it reported 96% charge/ 27.3 V. (This is with a light load of about 15%).
But progress crawled after that and it took about 22 more hours for the charge to finally report 100%. It slowly added 0.1% at a time maybe every 30-60 minutes.
After reaching 100% the reported battery voltage dropped from 27.2V to around 26.7 volts over the course of about 20-30 minutes.
I decided to initiate a 'self-test' at that point which seemed to work. The reported charge/voltage dropped to about 98.8 % charged / 27.2 V.
15 hours or so later it finally reports 100% charge again (making slow 0.1% increments along the way like before).
The reported battery voltage has dropped to 26.7V over the course of about 50 minutes since reaching 100%.
On my old SMT1500,
1) It never takes that long after a self test to reach 100% charge. I think the last
runtime calibration (with a much longer drain time) reported return to 100% within 2-3
hours.
2) I don't think I've ever seen my SMT1500 report a voltage lower than about 27.2V
after reaching 100% charge.
Is it right for the battery voltage to drop on the SMT1500C after reaching 100%
charge?
It seems to me that something is wrong if it takes so very long to report 100% charge after even a self-test.

I was hoping someone who has an SMT1500C could at least relate how their device compares for recovery from Self-test, and battery voltage at 100% charge.
At any rate, I've returned my new UPS since it unexpectedly dropped it's load output twice.
Once momentarily when sliding the battery back in after I examined it (to see if it showed any obvious issues).
Then later half-way through recharging after a run-time calibration when I tried to move the unit back a few inches.
So my unit apparently had something very wrong with it.
My system is back on an old SU1400BX120 (from Jan. 2000) I was planning on replacing (purely because of age). Now things are once again normal.
It may be a while before I get a replacement, so I will have to see how the SMT1500C charging behavior is then (compared to an SMT1500).
