Hello,
I have a Smart UPS RT 8000, SURT8000XLI.
I installed the APC_Device_IP_Configuration_Wizard in my computer and the program was able to found an unconfigured management card. The MAC Address matches with the UPS. When i enter the TCP/IP settings, sub-net mask and gateway the program says the IP address is already in use, but im 100% sure the IP address isnt being used, still i have tried a couple of different IP address but im always getting the same answer. I have installed the APC_Device_IP_Configuration_Wizard on Windows Vista SP2. Any ideias on how i can overcome this?
Thanks in advance.

I have this same problem. Seems like many people have this issue with the configuration software.
Interestingly enough, after trying multiple IPs (even IPs on new and unused subnets) with no joy, I entered an IP address that is in use - and the software promptly configured the UPS with that IP.
Good programming 🙂
Edited for clarity.

yes we are working on making the device IP wizard better. it works by looking for cards doing BOOTP/DHCP requests.
i recommend that you follow the link that techie provided instead of troubleshooting the wizard problem which we may not be able to track down as quickly as using another available method to configure this card.

Hi Carlos,
If possible, could you please try to configure the card through hyper terminal and check if everything is working well?
Click here to know instructions on how to configure the NMC through hyper terminal.
I hope that it helps.

Yeah, the utility doesn't always work. It should over serial though.

Before trying to use Hyperterminal, i connected a laptop to the UPS using a serial com cable and the wizard program, but when i tried to send the configuration to the UPS it simply turned off (note: UPS is online and running in normal mode). Right now i'll try to find the original serial cable that supposedly came with the equipment and use the hyperterminal program.

yeah, you need to use an APC serial cable. it has a non standard pinout - just a warning to others, this is noted in the manual to only use an APC serial cable because a standard cable can cause erratic and unwanted behavior such as this.
you need a 940-0024 or 940-1524 cable - part numbers are engraved on to the connectors on the cable.

Same problem here.. Device IP config utility is borked. bump
Word to those, like me, with new computers that don't have COM ports.. I am getting a USB to DB-9 adapter. I hope I won't have "erratic and unwanted behavior". DB-9 connections make me think of the Flintstones. hehe 😉
To be continued, running to the store to buy the cable.
-- Continuation --
Worked perfectly with the USB to DB-9 cable. I managed to set the ip address manually, and access it by the web interface. Bravo!
I am updating the firmware on the chip to 3.7.2 (from 3.5.5 factory default I guess). There is something a little glitchy with the DHCP.. doesn't seem to like my dhcp server, checking out what's going on there. So far so good.

device IP wizard has been fixed, with version 3.0.3, available on apc.com.
also, keep in mind, the DHCP server should have option 43 set on it in order for the NMC to accept the DHCP address from your server. if it is NOT set, the card will not accept an IP address. you can use the device IP wizard as an alternative or connect locally and disable the option 43 vendor cookie and configure it that way if you want.
