connect Smart-UPS 3000 with RHEL5

Hi all

I am trying to connect my RHEL5 server with Smart-UPS using PowerChute Business edition basic program using 940-1524D serial cable. the server cannot communicate with the UPS through tty port, what is your recommendation, is there other free program, do you know why i can't communicate with the UPS?

Have you tried installing the PCBE version 8.0.1 software? The PCBE version 8.0.1 supports the following:-
Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Advanced Platform 5.4 (See Note 2)
Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Base Server 5.4 (See Note 2)
Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® AS, ES, 4.8

Note 2: PowerChute Business Edition only supports Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Version 5 if Xen Virtualisation software is not installed or disabled. Please see Knowledge Base Answer ID 9244 at www.apc.com/support

i have downloaded CBE version 8.0.1 software, disabled Xen, and did the following configuration.
Select the Signal Type
[1]: Smart
[2]: Simple

Select the serial port
[1]: /dev/ttyS0
[2]: /dev/ttyS1
[3]: Other

Signal Type: Smart
Share UPS: No
Serial Port: /dev/ttyS0

Are the UPS settings correct? (Yes or No)

yes

Start PowerChute Business Edition Agent? (Yes or No)

yes

Starting PowerChute Business Edition Agent...

but when i access http://localhost:3052/security/, the (Device Communications is Not Established)
and when i select simple is shows (Device Communications on battary) but even when i diconnect the cable and resart server still shows on battary, that is why i think the reading is wrong

Could you please let us know the serial cable part number that you attached between the UPS and Server? The cable part number can be seen on the cable connector itself.

the serial cable i am using is 940-1524D. I used same cable with microsoft windows and it worked. what do you suggest i should do?
