I have a Backup-UPS NS 1080, I'm running PCPE 3.1.0 on Windows 10. I want my computer to hibernate soon after a power fail event (2-5 min). I also have my network devices connected to the UPS and I want them to stay up as long as possible during a black out. But if I have the Runtime option set to Preserve battery power, this UPS will cut the power automatically after a couple of minutes after sending the computer into hibernation. This power cut occurs even if the power is restored. If I set it to Keep computer on as long as possible, then the battery is nearly drained by the time the computer goes into hibernate.
I am looking into ways to configure this setup so that the UPS/PCPE combo will hibernate the computer shortly after a power failure, but leave the UPS up as long as possible. I see the thread Run external commands with this utility. from 2015 that says it is not possible, but I wonder if that has changed. I've been experimenting with the solution posted by David to use the events logged by PCSE to initiate the shutdowns.
I would set the Runtime option to Keep computer on as long as possible, and create a task in Task Scheduler to run an OnPowerFail command script to run when the Task sees an Event trigger. This script would initiate the computer into hibernate. As an added feature, the OnPowerFail script would also shutdown my two NASs I have on my network.
As anyone devised a better way to accomplish this?

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the reply. I did try to setup APCUPSD. But it is an incompletely ported Linux app. It has potential but still has issues on Windows that you have to take time to work through. (It crashed on me with an error that it couldn't find a file with the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\apcupsd\...etc/apcuspsd.conf) (Yes, it had the forward slash in the path.)
PCPE very easily could have the flexibility to do the functions I'm seeking. And it would improve it immensely. At least give me an option to set the conditions that are a priority for me. It is a priority to be able to keep my network up as long as possible. It would also be a no brainer to allow PCPE to launch a script so I could program what I want to happen.
So I'm working on launching a script from Task Scheduler when the PCPE logs to the Windows Event log. That works, but I'm also running into an issue where Windows 10 comes out of hibernation unexpectedly. (That's a problem for different forum.)

Hi,
Another option is to uninstall PowerChute and install APCUPSD. When configuring APCUPSD do not set up Kill Power. Then what the OS hibernates the UPS will remain up. The disadvantage to not cutting output is if AC is restored prior to the UPS turning off the computer will need to be powered back on manually. The reason PowerChute commands the UPS down is to allow for AC to be cut. Then when AC is restored if configured properly in the BIOS the computer will power back on with no user intervention.
