I have a 5000VA UPS on a remote site, I think the network card is an AP9619. I am unable to access this UPS with the username and password I have?.
Is there someway of breaking into the UPS remotely?. I need to check the battery life and we don't have any technical staff on that site?.
Thanks

The only way to access an AP9619 once the password has been lost is locally. These cards do not have a "backdoor" like some of our older network-enabled products. You can follow the procedure outlined in our public knowledge-base # 7879:
1. Select a Serial port as a local computer and disable any service that uses the port
2. Use the configuration cable shipped with the unit to connect the serial port on the computer to the serial port on the unit.
Please note the configuration cable varies depending on different APC devices:
For the Network Management Card installed to smartslot of an APC UPS, configuration cable is 940-0024;
For the rPDU, configuration cable is 940-0144;
For the EMU2 AP9319, EMU3 AP9340 and EMS AP9320, the configuration cable is 940-0103;
3. Run a terminal emulation program (such as HyperTerminal) and configure the selected port for 9600 bps with cable 940-0103 or 940-0144, 2400 bps with cable 940-0024 , 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control, and save the changes.
4. Press ENTER to display the Username prompt.
5. Press the Reset button on the management card, which will be located near the network jack.* The button is very small so it is likely you will need a paperclip
6. Wait (usually a few seconds) for the status light on the network jack to flash rapidly between green and amber and press the reset button again.
7. Press ENTER as many times as necessary to redisplay the Username prompt, then use "apc" for the username and password (if you take longer than 30 seconds to log on after the Username prompt is displayed, you must start the login procedure again at step 4.
8. From the Control Console menu select System and then User Manager.
9. Select Administrator, and change the Username and Password settings, both of which are now defined as apc
10. Press CTRL-C and log off
* Pressing the reset button on the network card will have no effect on the unit's operation.
Note: For network cards running less than version 2.5, step 6 (the second reset press) will not be necessary.
