Hi Guys,
I have recently purchased an APC UPS (model ID: SMX1500RMI2U) for a company project. I want to be able to set up an alerting system so that in the event that something happens, the UPS can tell me what the issue is. However I cannot use email for this feature.
I am using PowerChute for the management of the UPS but I am not useing the inbuilt email and paging system. Is there any way to use an API to set up custom alerts?
Thanks.

Hi,
If the NMC firmware version is 6.x go to Control - Network - Reset/Reboot and reboot the NMC.

Hi,
PowerChute has the ability to run a command file for individual events and shut down. PowerChute cannot call an API directly so you would need to write a command file that calls the API.
The PowerChute help file has a section on command files and there is Kbase FA168226 “Configuring Command Files for use with PowerChute Business Edition on Windows OS”.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for responding.
Would it also be possible to send the commands for a soft landing (emergency shutdown) via USB from the UPS to the servers in the event of power loss/temperature too high etc.
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes. PowerChute Business Edition (PCBE) can be configured to shut the OS down in the event of power lose and or temperature threshold violation. However, you need to install an AP9631 into the UPS for PCBE to be able to shut down due to environmental temperature violation. Also, the UPS can only communicate with 1 system at a time via USB.
If you have multiple computers plugged into the UPS and you want them all to shutdown gracefully due to an event you should purchase a Network Management Card (NMC) AP9630 or AP9631 and instead of using PCBE use PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS). PCNS allow you to run command files and with an NMC you can get UPS event notification via SNMP, SMTP, Remote Monitoring, Sys Log.

Hi Bill,
I have a AP9631 installed into the UPS, however I'm having trouble finding it's MAC address. I can't remove the card so I need to get it another way. Is there an easy way of finding it's MAC adddress through a software method?
Cheers.

Hi Bill,
Cheers, I've got the web interface talking to the UPS. Cheers for that. I've got a yellow banner at the top of the web interface however. The message reads "The system needs to reboot for a configuration change to take effect." I've rebooted the UPS multiple times but the messge is still there.
Any ideas?
Thanks 😄
