Hello Guys.
I'm not that experienced with UPS systems.
We have a APC Smart UPS 500, and we have added in an extra battery pack. Bringing our battery total to 3, does the UPS need to be re-calibrated or re-configured so it picks up the added batteries or is it automatically done?
Kind Regards

i just saw this, sorry. on SURT5000 units, you need to tell the UPS how many batteries it has connected. it cannot automatically detect it. i would not really do a runtime calibration assuming these batteries are new, just update the count. a runtime calibration will do a discharge on the batteries and should only be done about once a year. i just think that over the next month or so or when the UPS goes to battery anyway, it will automatically update your runtime. when the UPS runs online no matter what model it is, the value is always a very good estimate. when the UPS goes to battery, then it becomes as accurate as it can be.
if you're estimate is way off, then i might suggest a calibration.

can you be more specific on the model number - it should be on a white sticker on the back or bottom of the unit.
generally, when you get a new battery, its not a bad idea to do a calibration or depending on the unit, update the battery count to reflect the current runtime. a calibration will run the UPS on battery and allow it to recalculate the available runtime. without a calibration, the UPS will automatically recalculate the available runtime as it goes to battery for power outages or self tests.
once i know the specific model number, i can help further on a better recommendation.

Seems we have more or less similar issue here on site. With same type UPS, we have two pc. external battery packups but it seems that UPS don't want to charge them??? I have no any strange led's on screen so I assuming that everything is fine. Now however battery cells voltage has dropped down, even in some batteries something like 20 - 30VDC...
