I have one of the Symmetra PX 80KVA with two additional battery frame. Since a week this shows message as "Extended Run Frame fault". The error message cleares itself in 20 secs "Extended Run Frame fault cleared". This happens few times a day. The battery frame communicaton is good and reports the right number of batteries and reports battery quantity increased and decreased messages. Is there are real problem with the extended frame or these are junk messages?
Thanx

An Apc technical guy told me the same and few month after a string of batteries burn inside this frame....

Hello,
The first bit of good news: an Extended Run Frame Fault does not impact the operation of your UPS. Even in those moments when the frame fault is present, it is possible the UPS may not see the batteries, so the UPS runtime estimate would be off. However, since the batteries are still physically connected, they would still provide backup to the system in the event of a power outage.
The pieces involved in the XR frame fault would be:
• the XR com card in the UPS and XR frame,
• The cable that runs between the XR com cards,
• the terminators in the XR com cards,
• the battery monitor cards in the XR frame,
• the power supply in the XR frame.
• Correct frame address on the XR frame
Since your issue is intermittent, it will be a little hard to track down.
The easiest things to start with are:
• try a new RJ-45 cable between the cabinets (perhaps there is a loose connection somewhere)
•check the terminators in the XR com cards
-->Typically if you have a UPS and 1 XR frame, there will be a terminator and a RJ-45 cable in each XR com card. (if you have multiple XR frames, you will have a terminator in the UPS, and the last XR frame).
• try your setup with the two terminators as described above, and then try it with both terminators removed (I found it surprising, but I have occasionally observed removing the terminators to resolve faults)
