TrippLite SU10-KBP

Hello,

I know this isn't a Tripplite forum, but thought I would post here anyways. I got 3 of these things today and not sure what to do with them. Does anybody have a use? I don't have any cords or a way to test. But my God are they heavy. I would hate to throw them away and or scrap them oI took the cover off to show insides.

Please advise

If it were something I could drive down the road a bit and pick up, I'd be there in a heartbeat to give at least one of those a home.

I really can't imagine what I'd do with any of it, though. I don't have access to a 208 volt electrical hookup.

It would probably be a good idea to put a good quality voltmeter across any of the large capacitors, just to be sure they're discharged.

I don't think you can hope for much assistance on a competing brand's forum...outside of end-users like myself who are somewhat "brand agnostic". smile

What you've got there looks to be an "online" type uninterruptible power supply with a 7,000 watt output capacity. Unlike a regular UPS, this unit runs its inverter at all times to better isolate the attached load from anything that happens on the power line. The output is likely to be extremely high quality: almost certainly a true sine wave of equal or better quality than what comes from your wall outlet.

There is a potential problem: while the output can be wired for 120 or 240 volts, the input appears to be designed for 208 volts only. You aren't going to find that in most residential neighborhoods, unless you find a house with three phase power. (They exist, but are uncommon.) A step-up transformer could be used, but it would be absolutely monstrous and extremely expensive at the capacity needed to run the unit at its maximum load.

If the unit is cold start capable, you could use the unit as a giant inverter and possibly charge any attached batteries in other ways.

DANGER: The battery circuit voltage is indicated to be at least 240 volts DC. This can and absolutely  will  kill you if you're careless or not skilled in safely working on high voltage circuitry. You're talking more than enough voltage (and current!) here to trigger involuntary reactions from any appendage unlucky enough to come into direct contact with such voltage. If the flow of electricity went across your heart, it could trigger a cardiac arrest! Arc flash injury is also a very real possibility. Any conductive object that shorted the battery supply would likely be vaporized!

Its inverter circuitry is even more dangerous.

In other words, treat this unit with the utmost respect and ensure beyond any doubt that line or battery power is safely locked out and discharged before you work on it! And if you're not sure...DON'T!

I'd really suggest you contact Tripp Lite  for assistance if you're serious about potentially connecting and utilizing this thing. It very probably does work fine and might have some value to an industrial or commercial buyer.

Hi William,

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. The units have been unplugged for weeks if not months. I believe since December of last year. I plan on taking them apart today and scrap them out. I want to separate the aluminum and copper and junk the rest.

If there's something you would like, and I still have it,  let me know.

Bryan
