The battery is not installed properly

Hi,

I have a Smart UPS RT 3000 model SURDT3000XLT, I've configured alerts on it and since 2-3 weeks I receive this kind of alert :

Critical - UPS: The battery is not installed properly.

and then about 1-2 minutes later a receive this one :

Informational - UPS: The battery is now installed.

It appends 1 times / weeks

Did somebody have this kind of message before and what should I do to fix it ?

I have just started receiving those alerts myself. On my device the "Last Battery Transfer: Unacceptable utility voltage rate of change: was displayed. I then checked the logs for that UPS and noticed that the input voltage variations is between 118.8v to 124.5v. I have four UPS devices at that location. Although these three UPS does not issue the "The battery is not installed properly" and "the battery is now installed" messages they do indicate problems with the line voltage. Two of them detects line voltage notch or spike, and the other one compensates for high input voltage.

So since all are having some sort of input voltage issue, I am going to have that office contact the building and have the electrical circuit checked back to the breaker box.
I report back the findings when the electricians to their thing.

when you see this message, do you see any LEDs on the front of the UPS? it might be too quick to catch and I imagine you aren't sitting in front of the UPS the entire day.

we just released a new firmware upgrade as well so you can check out the software and firmware section of apc.com and look for SUMX applications of 3.7.2.

also, if you get spammed with these messages and can't figure out why, you could always delay the event before sending it while we figure out whats going on with it.

All the lights are green.
Your right I'm not in front the UPS watching paint dry. Red (Bad) lights would generally issue alerts, I have never known the warning lights to blink as something happens, they usually stay until addressed. The lights are confirmed by local personel and no other alerts are generated. The batteries in my problem UPS may not be optimal which may make it generate that alert and not the others?:| but no alerts are generated.

Does anyone who had this problem have any updates on their findings?

i assume you have double checked the battery connection? and i dont suppose anyone has seen the replace battery LED blinking on the UPS at any point?

What firmware is installed on the network management card in the UPS? this is under Administration->General->About.

I do have the same problem here with a SU3000RMi. I did a firmware update on the UPS Network Management Card (AOS v3.7.3), but that did not help.
Does anyone have new information about this and is there a chance, that a battery replacement resolves this misbehavior?
Thanks in advance...

i assume you verified the physical battery connections? with a non critical load, it would also be helpful to know if your UPS actually transfers to battery or does a self test - that way we could see if this is erroneous or not.

also, before you do that, you can provide your event.txt and data.txt from the NMC so that we could see if there is anything else going on in there that could be related or provide more info to diagnose the issue. instructions on obtaining event.txt and data.txt are here -> http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9321

ok at this point, i'd recommend upgrading the firmware on the network management card since it seems to be erroneous at this point since we have checked the physical causes.

the latest firmware is SUMX 3.5.8/AOS 3.6.1. you can upgrade this with no disruption to the load on the UPS, then we can monitor it to see if has cleared itself up.

[you can download the firmware from this link|http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SFSUMX358&tab=Software] and download the SFSUMX358 part number.
