The Application Is Incompatible With This APC OS

I received the error in the subject line after configuring the email server to use gmail. I telnetted into the device and ran the "resetToDef -p keepip" command and after rebooting I was able to log into the web interface again.

Ideally I would like to configure the system to use my office 365 smtp server but I believe that is still unavailable.  I have the model AP9631 in production and it is using the 6.4.0 version of the application module, 6.4.0 version of the APC OS and 1.0.8 of the APC boot monitor.  How can I configure this device to send email alerts using either office 365 or gmail?  Has this issue been resolved yet?

What I see in my logs after changing the email server to gmail and attempting an email test is:

 03/21/2017 07:06:51 System TCP/IP stack failure. Module: tfListRemove-assertion error line 132, file(.\treck\source\trlist.c)
 03/21/2017 07:06:51 System TCP/IP stack failure. Module: tfSheapFree-assertion error line 566, file(.\treck\source\trsheap.c)
 03/21/2017 07:06:51 System TCP/IP stack failure. Module: tfSheapFree-assertion error line 626, file(.\treck\source\trsheap.c)

If you need any additional information then I will be happy to provide it.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

AOS (APC Operating System) 6.4.8 (or whatever version it may be renamed to) will likely be adopted by different applications throughout the rest of this year. I'd expect most applications to adopt and tentatively release by June, July, August, September depending on what else they are building in.

I think last I heard, we are looking at August/September tentatively for Symmetra application that you have because they are adding a new feature (Bacnet).

Hi Chris,

The NMC is experiencing a TCP/IP stack failure and unable to boot so it displays the application is incompatible with the AOS. A few customers reported these exact TCP/IP stack failures using Gmail on 6.4.0 even though in-house we test with Gmail and never saw it. One customer reported they had to make a DNS change on their side and things started working again on 6.4.0. I never found out the exact details of the change. Another customer said in the next version of their app with AOS 6.4.6, the issue was resolved as well.

Specific to Offce 365, I think some people have gotten that to work but I am not 100% sure what is required and if it can be done in every environment. We will be supporting SMTP authentication with TLS 1.1 and 1.2 in our next AOS release which I think may be 6.4.8 or newer. This was one of the problems with using Office 365 for some customers I think since in current revs, we only support SSLv3 or TLS 1.0 for email authentication.

For Gmail especially, you may need to change your Gmail account's security setting and allow less secure apps to connect.

So, for Gmail at least, I suggest you try upgrading to our newest rev but I am not sure which application you're using - Smart-UPS, Symmetra, Rack PDU, etc as you just referred to application module. I can link it here if you let me know which app you need so I can confirm if AOS 6.4.6 is available for it.

Angela,

I received the warning from gmail account stating that it had blocked the traffic and I would have to lower the security setting (which I did).  I am happy to upgrade to the latest firmware if necessary.  The details for my unit are below:

Model
Symmetra LX 16000
Position
TOWER
Firmware Revision
269.514.S
Manufacture Date
11/11/13
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

OK, here is the latest firmware for the AP9631 NMC itself -> ftp://restrict:Kop$74!@ftp.apcc.com/restricted/hardware/nmcard/firmware/sy/646/apc_hw05_aos646_sy646...

Here are the release notes in case you'd like to see prior->http://www.apc.com/salestools/ARAJ-9TN74X/ARAJ-9TN74X_R4_EN.pdf

Instructions on upgrading if you need them (refer to NMC2) -> http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156047

Not sure if you knew but you can apply this upgrade with no affect to the UPS power output itself. This upgrade only applies to the AP9631 and its management interface.

That did the trick, Angela.  I am now able to send emails through gmail.  When do you think the 6.4.8 version will be released?

Thank you so much for the help.
