I just finished putting in my new UPS unit. It came with both the Power Chute Business Edition 8.0 software and the software for the management card. To take full advantage of the functions available in the software, do I need to install both suites? I am definitely utilizing the management card software, but is there a need for the powerchute?
Thanks in advance,
J

hi,
this particular unit, since it is a NETPKG, actually ships with a network management card in it as an upgrade. the SUA3000RMXL3U, without the NETPKG, doesnt, and by default would be used with powerchute business edition via USB or serial so thats why you received both.
so you are using the network management card, which is perfect, and what you should be doing. you will want to make sure you dont install and use both cause they acheive the same function. network management card has more functionality anyway with SNMP, SSH, email alerts, etc. for some reason, you could remove the network management card out of the UPS and set the UPS with powerchute business edition if need be.
to do a graceful shutdown for your load on the UPS, you need to install powerchute network shutdown on each of the servers or operating systems you want to shutdown when the battery runs out - if necessary. if you only have networking equipment or something, you dont need to do that of course.
let me know if you need anything else!

Ok, I installed the PowerChute Network Shutdown on 4 clients. All 4 show up as registered, but on one of the clients when I go to the User Interface for that particular client and log in, none of the links work on the interface. When I click the links to the left,it does not go to the link, it just stays on the View Event Log screen, but it Will highlight the link I click. Make sense?

yes. 🙂 [take a look at this article |http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7098]
Security settings within Internet Explorer can stop navigation within PCNS or block communications all together. In order to solve this navigation issue, you can put the server IP in as a trusted site in
Internat Explorer. To do this, open Internet Explorer and go to the Tools/Internet Options menu. Select the Security tab and the Trusted Sites icon. Click the Sites button and there will be an edit field
where you can enter the address to PowerChute. Simply enter an address similar to the following after replacing the IP listed with the IP address of the system or loopback address if the Internet Explorer with the issue and PowerChute are on the same system: [http://192.168.1.123]
Once entered, click the add button and then click the OK button. Click the OK button for internet options and you should now be able to navigate the PowerChute menus. If this does not work right away, please try closing and reopening the browser and navigate back to the PowerChute Network Shutdown page.
**I'd add HTTPS in there too..
