SmartUPS 1500(tower) shut down when connected via serial, won't power back up.
We had a tech on-site with a client yesterday to deploy a serial cable between this SUA-1500 and their ESX host so we can deploy PowerChute with vmWare integration. When he installed the serial cable the APC shut off and now won't turn back on.
With nothing plugged in to the APC and the APC not plugged in to the wall...
-If you simply press the on button there is a very short beep, the lights flash, and the fan kicks on. It will not do anything else at this point. In order to power it back off you need to press and hold the off button.
-If you press and hold the on button there is a very short beep, and about 3 seconds later there is a louder, long beep. This doesn't appear to do anything.
Is this APC now bad due to just having a serial cable plugged in to it?
ETA: I plugged the unit in to the wall and turned it on. It powered up normally, performed a self-test, and seems to be running fine. I left it powered on, unplugged it from wall, it switched over to battery and beeped normally.
What happened to this thing, and can I trust it enough to redeploy at the client site?
Also does anyone know what kind of serial cable is required for these devices, or have a wiring diagram so I can make a custom serial cable?

Hi,
The serial cables are designed specifically for the Smart-UPS. For that model you need cable part number 940-0024 or 940-1524. The cable can be purchased on line from APC.com or other Schneider Electric certified vendors.
