Hi,
We've a mix of old and new Smart-UPS, and I've recently upgraded the firmware on our AP9630 network management cards to version 6.2. 2 of the older UPS's are Smart-Ups 2200's have had a new battery last year, and seem to work ok.
PSU details:-
Model: Smart-UPS 2200
Serial Number: JS0711018600
Firmware Revision: 654.17.I
Manufacture Date: 03/16/07
But I've noticed a few "UPS: Compensating for a high input voltage." events and looking at the data log for the same time period :-
Smart-UPS 2200
Date Time Vmin Vmax Vout Iout %Wout Freq %Cap Vbat TupsC %VAout
06.02.2015 | 01:59:38 | 249.1 | 252.0 | 220.3 | 0.50 | 5.2 | 50.25 | 100.0 | 54.81 | 27.0 | 5.2 |
06.02.2015 | 01:49:38 | 252.0 | 252.0 | 252.0 | 0.44 | 5.2 | 50.00 | 100.0 | 54.81 | 27.0 | 5.2 |
I'm somewhat confused by the Vout readings, the Vout seems to be tracking Vin(ie not regulating), until the over Voltage(Vmax=252V) occurs and Vout drops from 252 to 220.3V
Q.Is this normal operation for this type of PSU?
Many Thanks for any Help!

Thanks for the logs! I think what you're seeing is normal. Let me explain.
I don't have the exact AVR transfer points available but I think what you're seeing is the hysteresis that is in the firmware and AVR function. Thus, what I saw was:
Date Time Vmin Vmax Vout Iout %Wout Freq %Cap Vbat TupsC %VAout
02/06/2015 02:19:38 249.1 249.1 220.3 0.50 5.2 50.00 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
02/06/2015 02:09:38 249.1 250.5 220.3 0.50 5.2 50.00 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
02/06/2015 01:59:38 249.1 252.0 220.3 0.50 5.2 50.25 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
02/06/2015 01:49:38 252.0 252.0 252.0 0.44 5.2 50.00 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
02/06/2015 01:39:37 250.5 252.0 252.0 0.44 5.2 50.00 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
02/06/2015 01:29:37 250.5 252.0 252.0 0.44 5.2 50.00 100.0 54.81 27.0 5.2
I think that since your voltage input was fluctuating and was high above nominal 230V, the hysteresis came into effect and didn't constantly necessarily toggle AVR and output voltage constantly. Depending on how fast it was happening, the NMC may not have logged AVR on/off/on/off but regardless, I don't think there is anything wrong and it appears the AVR kicked in as it should've.

Hi David,
Can you provide the full event.txt, config.ini, and data.txt logs?. I would like to see the full logs before commenting. Instructions are available here on how to get those log files ->
http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131
Also, can you confirm the exact model/SKU of your Smart-UPS 2200 (i.e. SUA2200I or similar) so I can understand what the nominal voltage and AVR ranges are?

Hi Angela,
Thanks for having a look at the logs. The confusion is having a mix of old and new APC UPS's, the older ones like this don't seem to regulate until they hit the upper or lower bounds/power settings :-
Rated Output Voltage 230 VAC
High Transfer Voltage 253 VAC
Low Transfer Voltage 208 VAC
Whereas the newer SURTD3000XLI's regulate the voltage. As with all technology half the battle is understanding the Jargon :-
"Boost and Trim Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

SURTD is a different UPS topology and does not have AVR built in since it works differently. SURTD models are an "online" UPS where as SU, SUA models are Line Interactive type.
And you're very welcome!
