My boss gave me an old SmartUPS 1000 wich he found in the basement. Today I tried to start it so i plugged it on power and pressed | . but nothing happend, no leds, no sound.
Am i doing something wrong or is there a way to fix it?

Nope, everything you're doing is fine. Without a good battery, your newly found Smart UPS won't do anything.
Odds are good that it is perfectly fine. The APC replacement battery part number for this unit is RBC6. Or, you can at your own risk, assemble a battery pack of your own if the original, worn out batteries are still in place. Save the fuse and wiring for reuse. Each of the original batteries is a 12 volt, 12 amp-hour type.
