PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2 is not compatible with SMT1000. The correct software is PowerChute Business Edition. The latest version is 9.5 and it is available on APC.com.
As for the NMC can you access it using the serial cable? Part number 940-0299 The cable is 9 pin serial to bottle jack. if you can I suggest logging in and checking the statue of the network connection. You should for the stat something similar to P+, N4+, N6+, A+
