AP9631 NMC2 w/ SY656 firmware does not provide useful fault location descriptions

The AP9631 (and presumably the other cards in the NMC2 family) running the SY656 firmware don't provide useful fault location information when faults occur. As an example (from Status / UPS / Battery):

8lnXzYxcM1taNfheyy9Y6Q%3D%3D&Rest-Api-Key=d3Bhc3F1aWw6NjM3MzU2MWEtNzYzMC00OTc5LTkyMTAtOTJjYTU0NGEwZWFl.jpeg8lnXzYxcM1taNfheyy9Y6Q%3D%3D&Rest-Api-Key=d3Bhc3F1aWw6NjM3MzU2MWEtNzYzMC00OTc5LTkyMTAtOTJjYTU0NGEwZWFl.jpeg

Note that the faulted batteries are shown as Battery 1, Battery 2, and Battery 4. The XR frame has 4 positions labeled L1, R1, L2, R2. The UPS front panel fault messages correctly identify the actual position.

Status / UPS / Power does make location information available for power modules, if you know the secret of clicking on the "NA" serial number. You'll then get "Location in frame: L1" (for example).

I suggest always reporting the location of power modules and battery modules with their physical location (L1-L4 and R2-R4 for the main SYH6K6RM chassis - the MIM and RIM are where the R1 slot would be) and L1-L2 and R1-R2 for the SYRMXR4. Obviously, the slot locations vary depending on the model of Symmetra.

By the way, I seem to remember this working correctly on the AP961x NMC.

It may be that the old NMC just logged the location in the event log (the front panel displays the failed location, so the UPS definitely knows which one it is).

BTW, it appears that these new batteries were not faulty - I swapped the 4 in the first XR chassis with the ones in the second XR chassis, waited for 100% charge, and did a runtime calibration again. The unit discharged to the same point, but this time reported "calibration failed" in the NMC2 event log, "Not available on August 23, 2018" in the Test / UPS menu, and "Calibration Stopped" in the front panel event log. See my other post here about that.

Here's the graph showing the calibration progress (the deep "V's" on Wed and Thu are the 2 calibrations, the first that triggered the bogus battery faults and the second that just cancelled itself for no reason):

Hi Terry,

We will see what we can do about this moving forward for a future release. The only thing though is that I don't see this being any different on the NMC1 models - AP961x as you said. I see this below:
