PowerChute Service not starting

Hi,

I have installed PowerChute Network Shutdown 4.2.0 64-bit on several Hyper-V servers. It is working fine on all machines except for one. On this machine I have the problem that the PowerChute service is not starting. When I try to manually start the service I get the following message:

The "PowerChute Network Shutdown" service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

I already reinstalled the program and restarted the server. Also I tried both the private JRE bundled with PowerChute and the public JRE from Oracle. Can you help me to solve this issue?

Hi,

The Install log shows

2018-08-24 11:06:52 --- Configuring Service
2018-08-24 11:06:52 > Java is located in: C:\Program Files\APC\PowerChute\jre_x64
2018-08-24 11:06:52 Starting service.
2018-08-24 11:06:57 Service started.
2018-08-24 11:06:57 > Configure the Finish Page
2018-08-24 11:06:59 > onInstSuccess
2018-08-24 11:06:59 Launching Configuration Wizard.

so the service is being started and PowerChute reports it is started. Is anything else being written to the system log at the same time? I would look for security software flagging the app since it listens to ports 3052, 6547, and 80.

Hi,

Is the system Server Core? If so it may be that WoW64 is disabled. See Schneider Electric FAQ FA177221 You can check the status of WoW64 opening a command prompt as an administrator and running dism.exe /online /get-features C:\features.txt The command will put a list of all features in a text file named features.txt found in C:

Hi,

No, it's no core installation. Nevertheless I checked if WOW64 is activated:

Featurename : ServerCore-WOW64
Status : Enabled
Featurename : ServerCore-EA-IME-WOW64
Status : Enabled

Hi,

Open the System Event Viewer and under Windows Logs - System There will be entries listed as Information and after installing PowerChute or starting it.

As an example this is what is shown after the software is installed

A service was installed in the system.
Service Name:  PowerChute Network Shutdown
Service File Name:  "C:\Program Files\APC\PowerChute\group1\pcns.exe"
Service Type:  user mode service
Service Start Type:  auto start
Service Account:  LocalSystem
and then you should see
The PowerChute Network Shutdown service entered the running state.
Check the log to see if it list a reason for stopping of failure to start.

Hi,

I get the event that the service was installed.

The next Event says: The PowerChute Network Shutdown service was stopped. EventID is 7036.

There is no event "The PowerChute Network Shutdown service entered the running state." and the event for stopping the service gives no further details.

I attached the log file PCNSINSTALL.log which is created in the folder of the installer. But in this log everything looks fine as far I can tell.
