Smart-UPS X 3000 - Turned off and won't turn back on remotely

APC | UPS Network Management Card 2

Not sure if anyone has seen this: Over the weekend this X3000 turn itself off. I now can remotely log into it but when I try to use the "turn-on" Controller I can't turn it back on.

Is this a known issue for this model unit?

Hi,

When you go to Control - Outlet Groups what options are available? You should see On immediately and On with delay unless you are logged in a Read Only or Network Only user. If logged in as either of those you will need to change permissions to enable UPS control. If you go look in the NMC help file you will see a section on Configuration:Security:Local Users Management: General User.

Hi Bill,

I logged into the UPS with the Super User Account and still didn't work. I contacted someone locally who DID turned it on for us. However this is strange because it is not the first time it happens on one of our X3000.

Now, I have tried to perform a battery test or runtime calibration and both failed.

Hi Pavel,

Can you provide us with the event.txt log file or the .tar file dump from the NMC? That will be helpful to see if there is some sort of NMC->UPS communication problem if it is not a user permissions issue (and lack of permissions to control the UPS).

Instructions here on gathering the log files if you need them -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131

Thanks!

I think part of what is going on is you have some battery issues that are preventing the UPS from operating/turning on normally. This appears to have started on May 12:

05/15/2015 09:18:04 Device UPS: The internal battery temperature no longer exceeds the critical threshold. 0x012D
05/15/2015 06:52:38 Device UPS: In bypass in response to an internal hardware fault. 0x011B
05/15/2015 06:52:33 Device UPS: The internal battery temperature exceeds the critical threshold. 0x012C
05/12/2015 05:07:03 Device UPS: No longer on battery power. 0x010A
05/12/2015 05:07:03 Device UPS: On battery power in response to distorted input. 0x0109

I think the UPS remained in bypass (so no battery back up power) and then:

06/06/2015 19:36:06 Device UPS: The output power is turned off. 0x0114
06/06/2015 19:36:06 Device UPS: No longer in bypass. 0x011E
06/06/2015 19:36:06 Device UPS: The power for switched outlet group 3, Outlet Group 3, is now turned off. 0x0135
06/06/2015 19:36:06 Device UPS: The power for switched outlet group 2, Outlet Group 2, is now turned off. 0x0135
06/06/2015 19:36:06 Device UPS: The power for switched outlet group 1, Outlet Group 1, is now turned off. 0x0135

I think on June 8th, someone was looking to get this on but the UPS failed its self test. Holding the on button likely forced it on:

06/08/2015 11:01:07 Device UPS: failed a self-test. 0x0106
06/08/2015 11:01:06 Device UPS: At least one faulty battery exists. 0x0119
06/08/2015 11:01:05 Device UPS: Started a self-test. 0x0137

It seems as though the unit is from 2011 and the battery is from 2012?

BatteryDate=08/15/2012 (from config.ini)

Long story short, I think you need a replacement internal battery and that will clear up these issues and the UPS will operate normally.

Let me know if you have any questions.
