Hi All
I am new to the world of APC. I bought this device (used) to suit my needs as I understand APC are the best.
So far so good (battery ok, main unit works well), however I am having a problem with the Networking.
UPS works great, battery works well, talks to my devices over USB (Synology NAS). I cannot however get the device to keep an IP address.
When I run the Device Config Wizard it finds my device as unconfigured, however when I put the IP Address I want in this is what happens/happened:
- Running Wizard 3.01: IP Address already in use (even though it is not)
- Running Wizard 3.03: Configures IP Address, offers to open up a webpage to administer it, but then gets nowhere. If I cancel and run the wizard again, the same process occurs (finds device as unconfigured and offers me to configure it with IP settings).
I have reset the Management card. I have even tried to Arp it, DHCP it through the router, all to no avail.
I am think the card works though, as when I received the device it had its old IP address in it, so I configured my laptop with an IP address on the same subnet and did a crossover directly into the device and was able to bring up the devices webpage, log in. Although even here I tried to configure the IP Address I needed, and for some reason it accepted the IP address but not the gateway. The on reboot of the device it still had the old IP address..... then on resetting the NIC it seemed to finally reset to nothing allowing the Wizard to find it (but with no success as explained above).
Thanks all, looking forward to some assistance to resolve this as I really want to get this APC unit going (could've bought a new cheaper brand but really wanted to get my hands on an APC).
edit: the battery does seem to go from 50% to 0% very quickly (eg on the load I am giving it it will last 30 mins or so to 50%, then only 1 or 2 minutes to 0%). I'm guessing this isn't right also?

in regards to the network management card, can you provide me with the event.txt [with these instructions|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9321/]. you will need to get the log when the unit has an IP address of course.
also, you should be doing the following:
1.) using wizard 3.0.3 to assign an IP address. log in to the NMC and check under Administration tab->Network->TCP/IP to ensure IP, subnet, and gateway are correct. if any changes are made, you need to apply them and then log off for them to take effect.
2.) how old is this unit? the battery may be dwindling..
