Much improved but I cannot e-mail from it. I have Adaptec Storage Manager on the same server and it e-mail notifications without a problem. I replicated the e-mail settings to PowerChute and it does not work. Anyone else having this problem?
As a thought you have no control over the smtp port. I think this is the problem. Concast uses port 587 and there is no way to set the smtp port in PowerChute 9.0 is there?

I got rid of the junk APC software and switched to the open source apcupsd for monitoring the smart-ups. This works a LOT better:

I'm using blat to send email noticiations and this allows me to change the ports. I'm using the Uzi's suggestions for creating the batch files in his post here:

no, there isnt a way to change the email port. default/standard is 25 and is not editable. just an FYI, the next firmware release for APC's network management card will support changing the SMTP port - which i understand won't help you with PCBE 9.0. also, if your email authentication requires SSL versus plain text, that won't work either since i dont think PCBE 9.0 supports that.

Well I suppose with APC it is one step at a time. With all the ISPs cracking down on spam and having to conform to the ISPs smtp authentication rules SSL and the ability to specify the smtp port are a must. Without it they might as well take the e-mail option out of PowerChute.
APC are you listening?

i understand and cannot disagree from a tech support point of view. i deal mostly with the management cards so introducing SMTP port changing is next followed by SSL based email authentication for NMC2 based devices. that will most likely be introduced in the first half of next year.
i am forwarding your comments to the PCBE product manager though.

It's my understanding that while most all ISPs block port 25 to help prevent spam and other malware from propagating their vast networks, customers with business class accounts do have access to port 25.
If you're running a business, check with your ISP how you can get access to port 25.

It is ridiculous that APC can't hire a programmer for 1 day to allow the SMTP port to be changed. I am having the same problem with my ISP blocking port 25. It took APC years to finally allow an SMTP username and password to be entered into PowerChute. Now I'm afraid it's going to take APC another 2 years before the port can be changed because the company is such a tightwad about making simple software security enhacements.
