I have a 4-5 year old UPS. It has been just fine, until yesterday when the power went for 5 hours.
When I returned to the unit this morning all the led's were blinking, and the fan is running on full.
The unit passes self test.
It is a UK unit, running on 240VAC, 50hz
The network card reports a.. "AVR Boost or AVR Trim relay failure."
Here is the relevant piece from the log:
11/15/2009 14:47:50 UPS: AVR Boost or AVR Trim relay failure.
11/15/2009 14:47:45 UPS: AVR Boost or AVR Trim relay failure cleared.
11/15/2009 14:47:19 System: Web user 'apc' logged in from 10.201.1.50.
11/15/2009 14:38:33 UPS: Passed internal self-test.
11/15/2009 14:38:20 UPS: AVR Boost or AVR Trim relay failure.
11/15/2009 14:38:20 UPS: Communications established.
I have read through the forums, and have tried a number of different ways to resolve this issue, all with no success.
1) Turn off, unplug, press and hold the off button, the lights flash and the unit is hard reset.
2) Turn off, unplug, press and hold the off button the unit resets, remove all batteries, and replace them all, then try another hard reset.
Obviously the unit is out of warranty....
Can anyone give me guidance to getting the unit back up and running?
either replacement of the faulty AVR Boost Relay - suppliers would be helpful
or another way to possibly make them machine run?
I was an HP and a Sequent hardware engineer so I can strip units etc.
Any help would be great.

Thanks for the response Erasmus, I understand that you guys will not accept any liability....... and I wouldn't try to make you take it.
THis is a unit I have at home and I don't want to spend out to replace it with a swap.
So..... is there anyone out there who can point me in the correct direction? I could strip the unit and work out the circuit, but it a lot easier to work from someone else's knowledge.
Again - any help would be useful

It does sound like the unit has an irreversible fault...APC cannot support the replacement of any internal parts, and will not be liable for any attempts to do so or parts purchased, however. If there is a customer who is willing to aid you in the process, then that is fine.
At this point our recommendation would be to do a Trade-UPS on the unit via our sales team for a discount on a new unit.
