I have Smart-UPS 3000VA with a network card: SMX3000RMLV2UNC. Actually, we have three of them. I am not very familiar with UPS terminology. I'm probably going to have to reconfigure them all to properly shutdown all our servers. But that's for later.
Right now, I have a remote one (500 miles) that's making a nasty noise (probably the fan) and no technical people nearby. I do have access to the network card interface.
Can I make the UPS act as one big surge protector and how would I do this either remotely or from the front panel? And, do I need to shutdown all the loads to do this?
Thanks.

Hi Bill. Thanks for the reply.
I think you are saying that I cannot power down the inverter circuitry independently and still have power delivered to the outlets? I was hoping to buy some time while I arrange for service or replacement.

Hi,
When the UPS is on, it provides battery backup and surge protection. If you power the UPS off output to the load will be cut. If you need to take the UPS out of service, you would first need to power off the load and then replace the UPS.
