Smart UPS 3000VA RM - Best way to shut down my servers

Hi there,

i plan to buy a SmartUPS 3000VA RM.

The servers i have are:

2x Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 32Bit
1x Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS 64 Bit
1x pfSense (Firewall based on FreeBSD 8.1)

The Firewall has an integrated package of NUT (http://www.networkupstools.org/)

The question is what is the best way to shut down all my server via the network.

Thx in advance
TheLiQuid

Hi JonPro,

sorry for my late answer.

Your tip with the management card and PCNS was great.

I got my scripts working that shutdown my ubuntu server and pfSense.

The UPS arrived yesterday and now its time to configure.

Thx for yout help.

Sebastian -

From the looks of it, PowerChute Network Shutdown combined with a Network Management Card is one of the option that you may want to look at. You can setup PCNS on your Windows Machine and set them up to run your custom made scripts to shutdown the Ubuntu box since PCNS only runs on RedHat, Suse and TurboLinux.

To know more about the products mentioned above, please click on the link provided below.

With regards to the Network Management Card we have AP9631 and AP9630
