Smart-UPS 3000 XL = 3 catastrophic failures in just over 1 year
We've had a Smart-UPS 3000 XL replaced three times now due to catastrophic failure in just over a year.
APC blame the generator that's been supplying our electricity for all that time after a fire in part of our building took out our connection to the grid.
The generator is shut down every three weeks for routine servicing. We also shut it down every two days for fluid checks (oil and coolant).
The first two catastrophic failures happened when the generator was shut down for servicing - so we started unplugging the UPS from the mains before shutting down the generator and then plugging it in once the generator was running and stable again which, to my mind, defeats the object of having a UPS in the first place.
The third catastrophic failure followed a fluid check - so the issue doesn't just revolve around the three-weekly service.
On each occasion we've begged APC for a proper diagnostic and received nothing in return.
Oh - I should mention - two Smart-UPS 2200 units on THE SAME SUPPLY have been completely unaffected.
Which is why we think the 3000 model must be somehow inferior to have failed so many times.
