We have a number of Smart-UPS 2200 in production. Manufacture date is Sept. 2011
This morning, we received 4 error messages (all have the same time and date stamp) on 3 separate UPSs:
01/03/2013 05:13:40 UPS: The battery power is too low to support the load; if the power fails, the UPS will be shut down immediately.
01/03/2013 05:13:40 UPS: A discharged battery condition no longer exists.
01/03/2013 05:13:40 UPS: On battery power in response to unknown
01/03/2013 05:13:40 UPS: No longer on battery power.
Am I looking at bad batteries here?
Thanks,
Tom

not necessarily. what is your total runtime with load attached? what is your low battery duration set to? (i believe that is under UPS tab->General or at least somewhere under UPS tab in the management card).
i think what happened is the UPS went to battery and the available runtime came within two minutes of your low battery duration setting (which by default is two minutes). if it was changed, it could have caused this sequence of events.

Thanks for your response.
Load in Watts = 16.9%
Runtime Remaining = 1 hour 4 min
Low Battery Duration = 2 minutes
Thanks,
Tom

hmm OK. can you get me the full logs. i also want to look at the data log at the time these came up.
i need event.txt and data.txt. you can remove any IP addresses or whatever that you don't want visible in the log files. instructions are here -> http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ -> search for FA156131

thanks. i assume you are aware of the unauthorized SNMP access attempts which are eating your log space...?
as far as the issue you presented, can you give me the firmware version of this UPS? it would be under UPS->About. i am thinking it is not up to date since it says "on battery due to unknown" which I know was addressed at some point so it does not say unknown.
the sequence of events does not look right to me and i cant tell if its happened previously (like during a self test even though it doesnt report it) because the log is spammed with the SNMP access attempts.
the data log reports that battery capacity went to 20% at some point. i am wondering if the 1 hr 4 minutes runtime you have is legit and if it dropped really low to two minutes on the quick battery blip you had and got to within 2 minutes of the low battery duration to generate those events.
have you witnessed an outage and saw how long the runtime on battery went for?
i am thinking if your firmware is outdated that we get that updated and see if it occurs again but i'd really try to address those unauthorized SNMP access attempts if possible so we can refer to the log history.
hope that helps.

ok - i believe you have a variety of SMT2200 (versus SMX2200). i am going by ID18.
what i would suggest we do is read through this article (http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/ -> search for FA164737 and confirm that i am correct. or if you know the exact model, we can cross check.
essentially, i believe there is going to be an update available. i am guessing though that your UPS falls into this category:
Units that do not support firmware update via USB:
SMX Units earlier than UPS 07.2
SMT units earlier than UPS 08.0
this is one option (reading through and using this USB firmware update option) or once we confirm the model, we can try pushing the update via the NMC. you can FTP the image file (which we can extract from the firmware upgrade wizard mentioned in the article) and send it to the network management card and then have the network management card update the UPS. either way though, this will require the output of the UPS to be turned off during the upgrade. the upgrade shouldnt take more than 10 minutes from start to end though in my experience.
