Smart-UPS 1400 - Switches off at low temperatures

I have a Smart-UPS 1400 which has been running fine until I recently changed to an energy saving server (<50W) having removed a rather energy intensive (>300W) unit. I am now experiencing periodic shutdowns or finding that the server has rebooted overnight following an unclean shutdown.

This installation is in an unheated outbuilding, and with the old server installed the cabinet used to maintain a reasonable temperature above ambient. However the new server doesn't generate an appreciable amount of heat so recently the temperature has been dropping to around 2 degrees centigrade, with a recorded low of -1.2 degC.

I've found on two occasions now that the UPS has switched off at some point in the night, or as has happened this morning that the server has rebooted after an unclean shutdown.

Am I running this UPS at too low a load, or are the temperatures beyond its tolerance?

Hello:

There is no minimum load for this unit, so the low load should not be related to the unit powering off. However, the operating temperature for this unit is 32 - 104 °F (0 - 40 °C). This would mean that you are somewhat on the boarder of the low end of the temperature. I have not personally experienced a UPS running in such a low temperature, but this does sound like it could be related. Have you tried running the UPS under normal climates, to ensure that the issue does not persist?
