Symmetra RM 6000

Hi,

We have about 100 or so Symmetra RM 6000 in remote locations. We currently use InfraStruXure Manager to manage the devices. All have email alerts setup on them. The question I have is we keep getting emails saying (Critical - UPS: The load exceeds 100% of rated capacity.) then a minute later we get (Informational - UPS: The load no longer exceeds 100% of rated capacity.) on the same device. Is there anything we can do to correct this issue?

Thanks

Is there any pattern to the generation of these alerts? Perhaps you can locate the unauthorized load by associating the time of day of the alert to some process that occurs at that location.

Erasmus' suggestion of posting your data log is an excellent one. Once you gather the data log and post it here, you might also want to adjust the sampling frequency down to 1min intervals to get a more detailed record of your load situation.

Would it be possible for you to paste the data and event logs during which these errors occur? You could double check the logs from the display to confirm the same messages (overload, discharged batteries) are reported there. If not, we'd likely go down a completely different path of troubleshooting.

How old is this unit? It's possible the intelligence module might be flaking out, but hopefully logs will help provide more insight.

Weird, started a new post this morning having this same issue (probably should have read the previous posts..) but it has the log messages showing what's going on and sounds similar: http://forums.apc.com/spaces/7/ups-management-devices-powerchute-software/forums/general/1803/how-to...

hi,

is this happening on ALL of them? what size load is actually on some of these if its really not going over 100%?

are you able to log into any of them and retrieve the main intelligence firmware versions on them? it sounds as though these are erroneous messages coming from the UPS because I am sure you will say your load is well below 100%.

This would indicate that the load current being powered by the UPS is above the unit's rated capacity. In general, fixing this problem would require either a) reducing the load on the UPS (or distributing to another UPS), or b) purchasing a larger UPS. The reason that it comes intermittently may be due to an air conditioning / compressor unit, heater, or any device that may increase it's draw due to command or automated requirement. This can include server(s) running an automated process instead of sitting in an "idle" state. This could also be caused by someone just adding in load temporarily for some reason.

To help you determine both the validity of these errors (ruling out false positive or communication error) and the severity of the problem, could you post a data log from a unit that is reporting the fault?

The spacing of your paragraph was what was messing this up. The board doesn't recognize an indentation, so it just wipes everything out thereafter.

That e-mail looks like it's formatted from the device, not the ISX Manager...

These e-mails should have a little hex-code attached, for instance you should be getting "0x0103" and "0x0104" in your e-mail that you received. Can you confirm this, and the fact that ALL the e-mails are coming from the devices?

If these are the extent of the e-mails you are getting, you can disable them from within the NMC's on the Symmetras from Administration -> Notification -> and look under "By Event" for the "Output Line Status" category. You can also plug the hex codes above into the error page URL like so:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/eventdtl.htm?code=0x0103

Once you can configure one device to not send out e-mails, you can then push the config for that device out to all your identical Symmetras (make sure their firmware versions match up) using ISX Manager.

After this, I would go about the process of verifying the load on your UPS systems to make sure this fault is correctly reporting itself.

Here is the code Code: 0x0103 (UPS: The load exceeds 100% of rated capacity.)
Code: 0x0104 (Informational - UPS: The load no longer exceeds 100% of rated capacity.) are the ones we are getting. I really don't want to disable the emails with this problem. Does this sound like a power spike?
