Smart-UPS 1000 + vacuum cleaner + wife = ?

My wife, bless her heart managed to plug the vacuum in to the back of the Smart-UPS 1000. There were a few events logged; Overload, Insufficient Run time then Shut Down is the order things happened if I recall.

It seems to be working fine after I turned the UPS back on, except one thing. The Min Line Voltage and Max Line Voltage are no longer being recorded in the data log, they just show N/A now. It was recording these fine prior to the vacuum incident, so something has changed.

It does still log the Input Line Voltage and UPS Output Voltage.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled PowerChute, tried both 7.0.5 and 8.0.0.606, I've tried brain-deading the unit, unplugging the battery and letting it sit for several hours, nothing has helped.

Could something like this possibly damage a componet on one of the PCB's causing these to no longer record? I haven't taken it apart yet to check things out, I didn't notice any fried electronics smell.

Thanks,
Stew

It's possible that the sensors on the UPS were damaged in some way due to using the vacuum cleaner in conjunction with the UPS, although it would take a very heavy overload or electrical fault to do so. It's interesting that the input recording has stopped, though. The only thing it sounds like you haven't tried is swapping outlets, which shouldn't really matter as long as input is provided from some source.

Can you post some screenshots from PowerChute, namely of the data logs, try swapping outlets, and also try taking load off the UPS?

did you recently switch to USB (versus serial) with this all of a sudden?

[see this article if you are|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=8022]

The minimum and maximum voltage readings (Vmin/Vmax) do not get transmitted from the UPS when connected with the USB cable This is a limitation of USB communications on a Smart-UPS SUA model UPS. The current voltage at the time the data is being recorded does populate with the correct information.

These values are filled in when the same UPS is connected via the 940-0024C or 940-1524C serial communications cable.
