AP8959 no web management available
hi, I have a AP8959, and I cannot reach the web management anymore. The telnet access is still enabled and available.
Reading on this forum, I am not sure what to do... I cannot find a telnet command to reset the web interface. is there?
maybe a stupid question, but when I do a firmware upgrade will the connected devices get a power reboot too? or do the ports stay in the state they are?
thanks,
rob

Hi Rob,
Okay, so first, here are the instructions. You'll want to refer to any "NMC2" methods-> http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156106
If you're on windows, you can just run the .exe. Your web interface will change a bit but the CLI will remain the same for the most part, just some new commands added.
I'll send you a message with the firmware download.
Let me know if any questions!

Hi Rob - what error do you receive when trying to use the web management interface - meaning do you receive an error or does it time out completely? Just trying to understand what state the unit is in. Where did you copy/paste that info from if not the web? Or did you copy/paste it from a group status page with chained PDUs connected to it?
I'd be interested to see what the telnet screen says as soon as you log in if you can share that and we can go from there. Need to see if this is a firmware issue or something else.
In telnet, the output of the dir and web commands would be helpful as well.
We should be able to fix this somehow. If a firmware upgrade is required, no outlets will be rebooted or affected. Only the management interface itself will reboot.

The webmanagement just does not give any reponse, times out, or at least it does on port 80 I am expecting it should work on.
The info I copied from the other system that is working, in the same rack.

Hi Rob,
Before we do anything drastic, if you can say that there is no issue with your browser (proxy setting, for example) and you feel like you've ruled that out, I would start by simply rebooting the management interface, which as we discussed you can do safely without affecting the PDU. We know telnet is working OK so I wonder if there is an issue with the web server. I see the PDU has been up for 167 days so that is why I'd try first.
To do this, you can go in via telnet and type reboot then it will ask you to type YES to confirm where it will carry out the reboot. Try and see if the web is working after that.

It is not required but I did want to let you know your PDU is several firmware versions old now and we have a newer version available (6.4.0), with one coming out within a few weeks too (6.4.4). I'd consider the upgrade "major" in the sense that the web UI changes and the system is much more powerful (multiple user logins, onboard firewall, better debugging, many security fixes), but you certainly don't have to upgrade if you don't want to. I am not sure if you have any other devices with our newer UI but if you are interested in more details about the upgrade and how to do it, let me know.
