Hi,
I have a Smart UPS SMT1000i that cannot be detected by PowerChute, Windows Device Manager picks up the device just fine.
When trying to install the PC agent, the installation gets to the detection phase, and then pops up with the "Setup was unable to detect your UPS screen". After installing all three components, the device discovery screen won't let me detect the server.
The configuration is:
Smart UPS SMT1000i
PowerChute Business Edition 9.0.1
USB
Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64
I have this same configuration across other servers with no issues. Serial connection doesn't work either.
I suspect this server had PowerChute Personal Edition installed at some point in it's life which I believe "left overs" maybe interfering with the new install.
Can anyone help me at all?

Hi Bill,
I followed the instructions but I'm not having much luck. The device is connected directly to the server and not through a USB hub. USBDEVIEW picks up the UPS and reports that it has firmware version 1.06. It's also appearing in device manager as an APC UPS under Batteries.
Any more ideas at all?

You can follow the instruction in Kbase http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=US〈=en&id=FA159949
to remove any remnants of PowerChute Personal Edition.
As for PowerChute Business Edition not discovering the device be sure that the USB cable is connect directly to the UPS and not through a hub. You can also test USB comm with a freeware app name USBDEVIEW. You can test serial comm with the UPS using our firmware upgrade wizard. When the wizard runs it check the serial ports to see if a UPS is connected. If you do try the wizard and it does discover the device let me know what firmware is on the UPS. The firmware upgrade wizard can be found attached to Kbase http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=US〈=en&id=FA164737
