Is there any server watchdog feature implemented in Powerchute / SMT-series Smart UPS?
I would like the UPS to reboot the server by turning the output power off, waiting 10 seconds and then turn the power back on if the server freezes. This would be monitored by the UPS Firmware by having the Powerchute agent periodically send keep-alive messages via serial or USB-cable. When the server freezes this would stop and the UPS can force a reboot of the server.
If this feature doesn't exist it would be nice if APC could add it!

This feature has to be implemented in the UPS firmware as the task of detecting a stalled server and then power cycling the UPS output has to be done by the UPS itself without any software running on the server.
The server needs a program that periodically sends messages to the UPS (this would be Powerchute or whatever) to reset the UPS "watchdog timer".
It is the exact same principle as the watchdog feature that APC has built in on their management cards, but there the watchdog resets the management card if it stops working.

Hi marin849, I am not aware of this feature with our personal or business edition software, however for the powerchute network shutdown software there is the possibility to shut down a server. It is something i can pass along to product management as a possible feature to implement into future software. Hope this helps.
