Several months ago we installed an SUA3000. It is connected to a Windows 2000 Server, and several PCs with Windows XP.
It is now constantly (at least once a day, weekends included) switching to battery, running itself down and shutting down the entire system. There are no electrical problems within the building, no power failures have happened.
I have read several posts regarding the serial cable. We do have the APC supplied cable attached.
Any thoughts?

Even more strange is the fact that I completely removed the batteries and the panel still shows 100% bat capacity.
And not sure how, but the smart protocol shows:
BATTV : 54.5 Volts
BCHARGE : 100.0 Percent
How can this be, it there are no batteries inserted? :S
Do I have to do some kind of reset procedure after replacing the batteries?

can you please provide the first several digits of your serial number? we can see how old it is from that.
do you have powerchute business edition installed in conjuction with the serial cable? it has a logging function for events and data which may useful.
most likely, the serial cable would cause the UPS to constantly self test if there is a problem with it. during this, the online LED would blink on the UPS and on battery would be illuminated of course. a "self test started" event would be in the log.
let us know and we can go from there. :8}

Hi
I have a similar problem with a SMART-UPS 3000 RM. Occasionally is shutdown it self after a continuous beep of a couple of seconds.
There is nothing wrong with the utility line on these cases, as other UPS on the same phase continues to operate.
Today a performed a calibration test, and it shut it self down during the test. 😐
I also unplug it from the utility power and and it went off immediately!
This could be related to weak batteries, if not the fact that the batteries were replaced a few month ago with an APC replacement kit.
I think that this problem (the occasional shutoffs) started after the battery replacement. It is my theory that when the UPS performs the automatic calibration test, it will just shutdown.
Other interesting thing is that although the batteries are recent the apcupsd utility shows "BATTDATE : 09/24/01" which I believe are still the date of the original batteries.
