Hello, just a question around battery replacement. I got an SU1500RM2U that has a battery with no charge. The unit was off for sometime and has completely discharged I believe. The UPS itself works fine with another battery. Will the unit charge the dead battery even if it will not turn on? Is there a way to trick the unit into charging the battery? Or is it that once the battery is completely discharged that the battery needs to be replaced? Anyway to reset it from the serial or usb port in the back?
Thanks for the help in advanced...
Curious,
Matthew

How long was it discharged? If you're trying to charge it up right after it was discharged, it may be possible to charge it. Discharged batteries die quickly so if some time has passed, I wouldn't risk it. Attempting to charge a dead battery can cause the battery to vent gasses and bulge making it difficult to remove.
If you were going to charge it, you could use a good battery to start the UPS, and then with the UPS running, swap in the discharged battery.

the UPS can charge the battery when the UPS is turned off and connected to AC power.
