I just got a Smart UPS SMT1500.
I opened the box, followed the instructions (battery module in the back is connected), plugged in the outlet...and nothing happened. I heard the fan, but I was unable to turn the unit on. .
After an extensive reading numerous forums, I opened the front panel and checked the ribbon cable connection. Unplugged and plugged and now the unit turns it on.
Now the problem is: all lights on the front panel are ON (Online indicator, ON battery indicator, Fault indicator, Replace battery indicator) and nothing is being displayed in the LED display. I have power in the rear connections (I plugged a pair of speakers to test it).
Also, the unit does not turn it off when I press the ON/OFF button.
I already let the unit plugged in for over 3 hours to have the battery charged.
Any clues on how I can make the unit fully operational, so I can plug in my computer? It is just frustrating that something that just came out of the box has so many problems already. What happened to PLUG and PLAY?

Well, after more extensive reading and some exploration, I manage to make the unit work.
The problem was the ribbon cable. It was NOT CONNECTED to the board inside.
To me, it seems to be a very serious quality control issue. Does APC expect the customers to open the unit and plug this cable inside the unit themselves?
